For this sailing course you need to have a theory certificate (recommended), 50 days at sea (with 5 days as a Skipper), 2500 miles and 5 passages over 60 miles (2 overnight and 2 as skipper).

The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation Course and Exam are the final steps in a student’s path to being able to work as a skipper. For a student, achieving the Yachtmaster Offshore qualification means that you can sail commercially and work towards becoming an instructor or other sailing professional.
You will be taught the skills and techniques required to skipper safely on offshore passages by day and night including passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, yacht handling under sail and power, as well as in adverse weather conditions and emergencies.
The key aspects after this course are that you can:
- Sail anywhere in the world on a charter holiday
- Make challenging passages across coastal waters
- Work commercially as a skipper
- Work towards becoming a sailing instructor
