the ski or snowboard instructor training course
Our ski and snowboard instructor courses have been running at Whistler Blackcomb for over a decade. For the 2010/11 season, we are running 2 courses back to back so you now have the option to do a 10 week early season course (with an optional paid work placement back at a Swiss resort) or a 12 week course later in the season.
Whistler is widely regarded as one of the best ski resorts in the world with the largest ski school, and it was also a venue for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This programme will enable you to enjoy everything that Whistler has to offer post Olympics and the opportunity to gain your Level 1 & 2 instructor qualifications through the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) or Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI).
For the duration of your ski or snowboard course, you will stay at the comfortable and spacious Alta Vista Chalet, which has a great location and all the amenities for you to have an enjoyable time in Whistler.
You must be able to ski or ride with confidence and control on intermediate terrain to undertake the course.
Both courses include a CSIA Snowpark Certification or CASI Park Instructor course. This will to help develop your freestyle skills and give you the opportunity to gain a further qualification that enables you to teach at an entry level in the snowpark. Alternatively, you may wish to do a First Aid and/or AST Level 1 Recreational Avalanche Course instead.
optional paid work placements after a course
If you are keen to do a course and then have a paid ski or snowboard instructor job afterwards, we can placements through SkiBound, a company that specialises in schools skiing.
Therefore, if you undertake the 10 week November programme in Whistler, you can then return to Europe to work as a ski or snowboard instructor at a Swiss resort such as Verbier over the February half term and/or Easter holidays. This placement scheme provides a unique opportunity for you to experience two world class ski resorts in one season! You do need to successfully pass the Level 2 in order to be eleigible for the placement.
There are 16 positions available in Verbier alone and these will be offered on a first come, first served basis to those who book an early season courses in Whistler, Val d'Isere – Tignes or the course in Verbier itself starting in November. There are also placements available at other Swiss resorts too.
As the placements are limited, we strongly recommend that you put down a booking deposit as soon as possible. We need to inform SkiBound of the people we have down by 30 September 2010 (subject to positions still being available) so please contact us on 029 2066 0200 before this date if you are interested. The work placements are just an added bonus for people who train and qualify as a ski or snowboard instructor through us.
You do not have to do the work placements after the course as you may wish to stay on in resort, do some extra travelling or simply return home. The instructor placements just provide an added opportunity for those who want to use their ski or snowboard qualifications after an early season course to do some paid ski or snowboard instruction and get some more experience.
