padi divemaster course
Divemaster is the first level of the PADI Professional ratings. This elite qualification allows you to supervise recreational diving activities, either boat or land based, and to work as an instructional assistant on any PADI courses. As a PADI Divemaster you will hold the minimum rating for employment in the Diving Industry. It is also the minimum pre requisite for enrolment in a PADI Instructor Course (IDC).
the course
This 17 day course consists of a combination of theory sessions and practical skill development in both the pool and the ocean. Designed to give you the maximum experience possible your course will include 2 x 3 day 2 night liveaboard dive trip to the outer Great Barrier Reef. Over these 2 trips you will complete up to 20 dives consisting of a combination of training and recreational dives. Meals on the boat will also be provided on the liveaboard dive trips.
prerequisites
The pre-requisites for this course are:
- PADI Rescue Diver certification or equivalent
- a minimum age of 18 yrs
- a minimum of 20 logged dives at commencement of the course
- current First Aid certification

- AU$55 – Medical (compulsory if starting from Open Water level)
- AU$75 - Medical (professional) - a current dive medical completed within the past 12 months is required and it doesn’t have to be completed to the Australian Standard.

- Day 9-11: 3 day / 2 night live aboard dive trip
- Day 12: Time off to study for exams
- Day 13-14: Exams
- Day 15-17: 3 day / 2 night live aboard dive trip
start off level
You can start a Divemaster course from one of the following levels:
- From scratch starting with the "Learn to dive" Open Water course
- From Open Water Level starting with the Advanced Open Water Course
- From Advanced Open Water Level starting with the Emergency First Response (First Aid)
liveaboard dive trips
The table above shows that you need 60 dives to complete the PADI Divemaster course and you will go on some amazing 3 day 2 night trips out to the Great Barrier Reef as part of your training.
However, depending on your start off level, the number of logged dives you have and the dives included in the Pro Dive course, you may need to top up your dives on additional dive trips to reach the 60 dives required for Divemaster.
These liveaboard boat trips to the reef can be organised for you with Pro Dive Cairns at an additional cost of AU$620 and this will give you 11 dives per trip.
