government camp - the village
Government Camp is located within an hour of Portland in Clackamas County, Oregon, south of Mount Hood and north of Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain. The Alpine village was given its name by settlers who discovered several abandoned cavalry wagons from the first US regiment of Mounted Riflemen, who were bogged down by mud & snow crossing through the Oregon trail.
Government Camp is a gateway to several ski resorts, the most popular being Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood Ski Bowl. It also has its own smaller ski resort called Summit Ski Area with Mount Hood Meadows, another very popular ski resort, 25 minutes away.
You can enjoy a recreational paradise including year-round skiing and snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, fishing, golfing and much more just steps from your door.
