A successful racing career including British and Scottish titles and a few years with the British ski team led to coaching and Instructing roles and subsequently Coach and Instructing education roles for 20 years throughout the world including 8 winters in New Zealand. Key racing achievements include British Ski Team, British Intermediate FIS Ski Champion, 2 x Scottish FIS Ski Champion, Anglo Scottish Champion. Peter says ... As the Director of Training and CEO of BASI, the British Association of Ski Instructors, I feel I have spent far too much time in an office environment over the last fifteen years. But I still spend as much time as possible working with people in one of the best environments in the world - the outdoors. I find teaching people to ski one of the most fulfilling and rewarding jobs anybody can do. Part of my role with BASS Chatel is to develop new Instructors into World Class Instructors and Coaches and I am really looking forward to this opportunity. One of my projects for the next couple of years is to become involved in coaching again and I am discussing setting up race training programmes, in the Chatel area, for local English speaking children. I would also like to combine my extensive management experience with my coaching and instructing skills in the outdoor environment to offer team building and leadership training for business teams.
I grew up in Canada and Scotland with my early ski experiences taking place on the sunny scottish slopes of Glencoe and Caingorm. I have 14 seasons of instructing experience working in Austria , because of which I speak fluent German, and Australia ! My focus in Austria for the past couple of seasons has been teaching off piste clinics, and in Australia I work as childrens head coach for the race club working mainly with the under 14 age group. In my freetime I enjoy lots of sports including more skiing of course, snowboarding, hiking and running to name a few, also languages and knitting beanies (if anyone wants one!).I have a passion for teaching and coaching and love working with children and adults of all levels. I am really looking forward to becoming part of the Chatel team this season!
I am finally planning the next edition of my book (Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, a handbook for teaching children to ski) and my aim is to complete it before the season starts! Having worked all over the world Andorra, Italy, New Zealand, Germany, the USA and Switzerland I am now finally settled in a little village 20 mins drive below the Chatel resort! When I ' m not teaching skiing I enjoy being a mother, I love the outdoors, climbing, walking, running, biking, swimming and playing my cello. I ' m currently working on an exhibition of my paintings to be shown later this year as well as working on our ski school projects for the winter. Life is busy but then we wouldn’t have it any other way!
