our people

Our website contains all the information about the programmes we offer and all the top people locally in the resorts who are involved to make your experience with IA special.

Here are some details about the people who work from our UK office too ....

alan – general manager

I have worked for the International Academy for over 11 years. I really enjoy working in a role that gives others the chance to have extraordinary life experiences and to develop their own skiing and snowboarding skills. I love to ski and enjoy being in the mountains surrounded by spectacular scenery.

Year after year, I am encouraged by the positive feedback that we receive from our trainees about their time with us, and the opportunities that our International Academy programmes have presented them - with many going on to work in the industry. I am also excited that we are now offering sailing, scuba diving and surfing courses in some of the world’s most exotic destinations.

Put simply, our aim is to give you an amazing and unforgettable experience!

Alan Bates

Outside of skiing, I have a strong interest in many other sports and I have pursued a career in sport and leisure from a young age. I studied Sports Studies at A level and graduated from university with a BA Honours Degree in Physical Recreation Programmes and Recreation Studies. Following uni, I spent 10 months living and working in Australia and undertook some voluntary work for SOCOG (Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games) working on the Project Plans for all 28 Olympic sports.

I live in Cardiff which is where the International Academy is based. I have a wife and two children, a boy aged 6 and a girl aged 3 who are both very energetic, and we look forward to having plenty of family skiing holidays together. Who knows … one day our kids may want to do an IA course in the future.

lisa - admin and operations

I am Lisa Smith and I work with Alan part time in the office in Cardiff. I have been with International Academy since September 2010, having taken a 5-year career break to look after my little boy. I am new to the world of skiing and snowboarding although I am eager to learn and improve. My responsibilities include the organisation of the office and course/travel documentation, and generally trying to ensure that Alan is in the right place at the right time! I also assist with the booking procedures, invoicing and management of our client database.
